About Didier Naert
Didier Naert is a French artist and architect based in Rome, Italy. He started his career working in the film industry creating cinematic sets. As an artist, his chosen medium is very particular and unusual. He works with vintage photographic editions and negatives which he sources himself and then reinterprets the image by drawing around them, giving them a completely new meaning. Naert’s mastery in the manipulation of scale can be seen in the manner in which he plays with the photographs and extends and enlarges the images, creating an imaginary environment very convincingly. Annotated by drawings, the old photographs seem to be reborn; he gives them a second chance, a second life.
He revives the work of anonymous photographers as well as professional ones like as Alexandre Trauner, who was a famous film set designer.
